Basically the cutest little donut hole treats that ever were…
no baking required.
When I first went to the market to buy the supplies necessary for these fun little donut hole treats I thought I would just be making acorns. I admit, I didn’t come up with the idea of acorn donut holes at all. I was inspired by Mom Spark and had to make them for myself. Considering no part of this recipe is homemade, I was quite surprised to find myself dashing to the store for some donut holes and jarred chocolate frosting.
Hormones, the weather, stress…whatever the reason, I wanted some festive, sprinkle covered donut holes.
The second I started frosting the donut holes with the chocolate frosting and smoothing it out with a knife all I could see was hair. Thick, luscious, delicious hair, or, for an unfortunate few, a really bad toupee.
Naturally, I had to made some people.
Well, what happens when I am left to decorate 30 little donut holes myself with no one to talk to? I create scenarios in my head about these little acorn people and their acorns; elevating them from simple donut holes to characters in some plotless story.
It was amazing.
You should definitely be more like me.
No matter how you look at these donut holes, they are definitely two things- the easiest thing to make EVER and the perfect treat for any fall party.
Or, for no reason at all.
They would also be really fun to make with your kiddos. However, if your child is anything like mine, don’t. When I think about making these with O all I can see is chocolate… smeared everywhere… the walls, couch, carpet, dog. And the sprinkles? Well, the last time he got his hands on sprinkles they were fired in the air like confetti.
Instead, I surprised him and his teachers and was the best mom ever. YES!
Easy Acorn People Donut Holes
- Spread a large piece of parchment paper over a flat work surface.
- One by one, start by frosting the top half of each donut hole. Scoop approximately 1-2 teaspoons of frosting on to each donut hole and use a small spoon or knife to smooth.
- FOR THE ACORNS- Insert a halved pretzel stick into the top and, over the parchment paper, sprinkle with your favorite sprinkles. Set aside on a clean, dry platter.
- FOR THE ACORN PEOPLE- place approximately 1 teaspoon of honey on a small plate. Use one end of a toothpick to apply the eyeballs by inserting the toothpick into the honey, spreading a small amount on the back of each eyeball and transferring the eyeball to desired location on the donut hole.
