Chocolate mousse is what I imagine when I want a more sophisticated version of chocolate pudding. While both desserts are chocolatey and delicious, chocolate mousse has a lighter and more delicate texture compared to chocolate pudding’s creamy, custard-like consistency. Pudding is playground-proof, while mousse is not.

To make chocolate mousse, melt chocolate chips with ½ cup of heavy whipping cream in the microwave, stirring in 15-second intervals until fully melted. Stir in vanilla extract and kosher salt, set aside to cool slightly.
In a separate bowl, whip 2 cups of heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form; set aside ¾ cup of whipped cream.
Gently fold the homemade whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture using a rubber spatula. Divide the mousse into four serving dishes, optionally chill for 2-4 hours, then garnish with chocolate fudge, a scoop of reserved whipped cream, and chocolate shavings before enjoying.
