Swedish meatballs are a favorite comfort food, served over mashed potatoes with a side of sweet and tart lingonberry jam. They are easy to make and make a perfect weeknight dinner with mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, and roasted greens.
Mix ground beef, pork, breadcrumbs, milk, dried onions, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, and allspice to form 2-inch meatballs.
Heat a large skillet with oil and add meatballs. Fry until brown on each side, then transfer to a clean plate and repeat with remaining meatballs. Add additional oil as needed.
The sauce is made by melting butter, whisking flour, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and salt, and stirring continuously until thickened. Add half-and-half and sour cream and stir until thick and creamy, about 5 minutes.
Meatballs are cooked over medium-low heat for 8-10 minutes, served with mashed potatoes and garnished with parsley if desired.
