Chipped Beef on Toast or SOS (Same Ole Stuff) is the ultimate comfort food. Made with a smooth and creamy white sauce, dried beef, and thick slices of toasted bread, this one-pan dish is affordable, filling, and delicious for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

Melt the butter in a medium skillet set over medium heat. Add the beef and cook for 2-3 minutes or until it darkens in color and starts to crisp.
Stir in the flour, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, and nutmeg, and cook until it becomes golden and fragrant, about 2 minutes.
Stir in the milk and whisk continuously for 5 minutes or until it starts to simmer and thicken. Once it’s thick enough to coat the back of a spoon remove from heat.
Toast the bread then lay 1-2 slices of it on a plate and generously pour the chipped beef gravy on top then serve with freshly minced parsley for garnish if desired.
Leftovers: Transfer leftover creamed chipped beef to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Optional: Double the dried beef for a more meaty sauce.
