Using an electric hand mixer, beat the softened cream cheese on medium speed until completely smooth. Sift in the powdered sugar and beat again until creamy and well combined.
Add the sour cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt, and continue to mix until incorporated.
Add the milk, one-half tablespoon at a time, beating until the dip reaches your desired consistency.
Serve with fresh fruit such as watermelon, pineapple, grapes, cantaloupe, or strawberries, and with graham crackers if desired.
Yield: This Cream Cheese Fruit Dip recipe yields approximately 1.5 to 2 cups of dip which is enough for 8 to 10 servings as part of a fruit platter or party tray. If you're serving a large group or hope to have leftovers, consider doubling the recipe.
Tip: Remember to let the cream cheese and sour cream come to room temperature before mixing. If you use cold cream cheese, it is more likely that your fruit dip will turn out lumpy.
How long will this cream cheese fruit dip last in the fridge? Stored in an airtight container, this fruit dip will last up to one week. This affords plenty of time to make this dip a couple of days ahead of time, if needed. If the dip is too thick straight from the refrigerator, let it sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes and give it a good stir before serving.
I do not recommend freezing.
