The main sight in wurzberg is the fortress marienberg.
built in 704 A.D., this fortress is now a park and museum open to the public.
resting on top of a hill,
it can be seen from nearly everywhere in wurzberg.
Honestly,
the park encircling this fortress is lovely,
and contains spectacular views of the entire city.
the walk up to the fortress was my favorite part about this entire city.

A large tall tower with a clock on the side of a building

A castle on top of a building

The wurzberg residence is the other must-see structure.
built in the french style,
it is known for its grand staircase, chapel, and salon.
the exterior of the palace is stunning
(although, I have yet to make it to France, so I have little to compare)

Although I did not go inside,
the exterior and gardens are beautiful.
I took my time walking around,
snapped some photos,
and paused for a few minutes to just sit on a bench,
and imagine what it would have been like to live in such a grand building…
honestly, I can’t.
imagine.
but, I do confess that I have always been a little obsessed with the idea of being royalty a few centuries ago.
but, mostly because of the gowns and fashion.

Ugh, homesick again! The fortress was one of my favorites! I remember getting strawberry ice cream there – do they still sell ice cream?
Lovely pics!! I must go back!

Wow, that looks seriously imposing! Beautiful. I totally agree – I have always fancied myself as a member of royalty hundreds of years ago. Definitely would have enjoyed that lifestyle. Imagine calling that your home!!

ps Jurgen and I watched the 3 Musketeers the other night and in it they show a scene with that house jutting out over the water in Bamberg, but they pretend it's France. I was so proud that I could tell Jurg, that's not France, it's Germany, that building's in Bamberg ๐Ÿ™‚ Learn so many things from your blog!

Wow! Those pictures are stunning…they totally made me feel like I was living in that era which is a huge reason why I love Europe. It has history that N.A. just can't provide ๐Ÿ˜‰
