Styled whipped feta dip topped with olive oil and pomegranate with text overlay: Whipped Feta Dip – Easy 5 Minute Recipe

It takes just 5 minutes to make this super creamy and deliciously tangy Whipped Feta Dip. Made with feta cheese and thick Greek yogurt, it’s the perfect low-key party appetizer, especially when served with pita, veggies, and more! Don’t forget the toppings, they’re the best part!

Styled flatlay of whipped feta dip surrounded by pita, za’atar, lemons, and fresh mint.

Feta cheese is bold, salty, and delightfully tangy. It’s my favorite last-minute addition to lackluster sauces, stews with undefined flavors, and a must-have in almost any salad. But, if there’s one thing feta cheese isn’t, it’s spreadable. Fortunately, this creamy whipped feta dip is here to save the day!

This simple recipe combines feta cheese, thick Greek yogurt, extra-virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, and just a hint of lemon juice in a food processor or blender to create the creamiest, fluffiest whipped feta dip ever.

The Secret to Perfectly Smooth Whipped Feta Dip

So, what’s the key to the creamiest whipped feta? Use good-quality block feta cheese that’s packed in brine. Pre-crumbled feta, while convenient, usually comes coated in anti-caking agents, which not only dry out the cheese but also affect its ability to blend smoothly. Block feta in brine is smoother, way creamier, and more flavorful.

Whipped Feta Ingredients

This easy feta dip is made with simple ingredients. Here’s what I used to make it:

  • Feta Cheese: Discussed in more detail in the section above, be sure to purchase blocks of feta packaged in brine. I love the Dodoni brand, but any feta made with sheep’s milk (or a mix of sheep’s milk and goat milk) will have the best flavor.
  • Greek Yogurt: Full-fat Greek yogurt mellows the tanginess and saltiness of the feta while also helping make the dip extra smooth and creamy. Be sure to use plain, unflavored Greek yogurt.
  • Extra-Virgin Olive Oil: Adding EVOO during blending helps emulsify the dip for a silky, creamy finish.
  • Fresh Garlic (optional): Adds a hint of Mediterranean flavor, especially when combined with fresh lemon juice.
  • Fresh Lemon Juice: Helps to balance the richness of the cheese and yogurt. Always use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor.
  • Salt & Black Pepper: Add only if needed. Feta is already quite salty, so start with less salt and add more to taste as needed.

How to Make Whipped Feta

Here’s how to make this whipped feta dip with step-by-step images. Check out the recipe card below for the complete ingredient list and printable instructions.

Large chunks of feta cheese in a food processor, ready to be blended
Feta cheese processed into fine crumbles in a large food processor.

Step 1: Break the block of feta into large chunks and place them into the bowl of a food processor or high-speed blender. Tip: Using block feta packed in brine is recommended. Just be sure to drain and pat it dry with a paper towel before blending to avoid watering down the dip.

Step 2: Pulse the feta in short bursts until it resembles fine crumbs. This step helps the feta break down into a nice even base and prevents clumping once the liquids are added. Remember to scrape down the sides if any large pieces remain.

Step 3: Add the Greek yogurt, minced garlic clove (optional), and lemon juice. Hold off on adding salt or black pepper until you have a chance to try the dip. Tip: Use room temperature yogurt and oil. Cold ingredients make it harder to emulsify the dip for a silly smooth finish.

Step 4: Blend the mixture on high speed; while the processor is running, slowly drizzle olive oil through the top opening of the food processor until it is completely smooth and creamy, about 1–2 minutes. Pause to scrape down the sides as needed. If the dip is too thick, add 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil or lemon juice, or 1-2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt, until the final result is light, fluffy, and spreadable.

Topping Ideas for Creamy Whipped Feta

This creamy whipped feta is a blank canvas waiting for tasty toppings. For this recipe, I topped mine with olive oil, homemade za’atar seasoning, pomegranate pearls, and fresh mint to create the perfect Middle Eastern-inspired dip. Here are a few other fun ideas:

  • Sweet & Tangy: Drizzle with honey and top with pomegranate arils and chopped toasted pecans. A beautiful combo perfect for the holidays.
  • Mediterranean-Inspired: Drizzle with olive oil, chopped marinated olives, roasted cherry tomatoes, and sprinkle with crushed oregano or lemon zest. Delicious with flatbread, crudités, or as a mezze platter.
  • Bold & Spicy: Drizzle with hot chili oil or hot honey, then sprinkle with Aleppo pepper or crushed red pepper flakes and thinly sliced green onions.
  • Earthy & Sweet: Roasted grapes, crumbled walnuts, and a light drizzle of balsamic glaze. The perfect pairing.

Serving Tip: Half the fun of making this dip is how you present it – especially if you plan to add some toppings! Spoon the whipped feta into a round, shallow bowl (while it’s still at room temperature), then use the back of the spoon to spread it into a wide, even circle, creating soft ridges and valleys in the surface of the dip to collect all the various toppings.

How to Use Whipped Feta in Everyday Dishes

Transforming crumbly feta cheese into a smooth, spreadable version is pretty life-changing. Aside from the obvious idea of including it as part of a mezze platter or charcuterie board with fresh vegetables and warm pita bread, what are some other ways you can enjoy this dip?

Well, for starters, it’s absolutely incredible with crispy French fries, roasted potatoes, or stirred into soup. Add a spoonful to your next pasta dinner, smear it onto pizza, naan, or flatbread, or layer it into your favorite homemade lasagna. Heck, you could even stir it into scrambled eggs (this is actually really good!) Honestly, once you start experimenting with different flavors, you may be surprised at how versatile this dip actually is!

Jessica’s Notes

This whipped feta dip recipe yields approximately 1 to 1¼ cups of dip, and makes about 4 to 6 appetizer-sized servings, depending on what it’s served with.
  • For best results, use room temperature ingredients. This helps the dip blend more easily for a smoother consistency.
  • If the dip is too thick, adjust the consistency with a small amount of olive oil, lemon juice, or Greek yogurt until it’s light and spreadable.
  • Be sure to check out the full post for topping ideas and fun ways to use this whipped feta in everyday recipes!
How to store whipped feta dip: Transfer leftover whipped feta to an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. After chilling in the refrigerator, the dip will firm up slightly. To return it to its original whipped consistency, allow it to sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes, then re-blend (or stir well for smaller portions). If you’d like to make this dip ahead, wait to add any toppings until just before serving. Freezing is not recommended.

    Hi –
Quick question – how would you adapt this to use a personal blender (like a bullet) with no “drizzle port”?

    Thanks!

Great question! If you’re using a personal blender without a drizzle port, you can still make this whipped feta dip with a simple adjustment. Instead of drizzling the olive oil in while blending, just add the olive oil along with the Greek yogurt, garlic, and lemon juice right from the start. Then blend everything together until smooth and creamy, pausing to scrape down the sides as needed. The texture will still be deliciously creamy, and you’ll hardly notice a difference!
