This 5-Minute Whipped Feta Dip is super creamy, deliciously tangy, and made with just 5 ingredients (plus salt and pepper). It’s the perfect low-key party appetizer, especially when served with pita, veggies, and more! Don’t forget the toppings, they’re the best part!

Feta cheese is bold, salty, and delightfully tangy. But, if there’s one thing feta cheese isn’t, it’s spreadable. Fortunately, this creamy whipped feta dip is here to save the day! This simple recipe combines feta cheese, thick Greek yogurt, extra-virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, and just a hint of lemon juice in a food processor or blender to create the creamiest, fluffiest whipped feta dip ever. Enjoy it with homemade pita bread, added to these 20-minute gyro wraps, or swirled into your next bowl of spicy penne arrabbiata.

A top-down view of all the ingredients needed to make whipped feta dip. In the center, a block of feta cheese sits on a plate. Surrounding it are small bowls of black pepper, salt, Greek yogurt, olive oil, and a single garlic clove. There is also a halved lemon on the right. The ingredients are clearly labeled and arranged on a white marble countertop.

Ingredient Tip: Use the Right Feta

What’s the secret to making the creamiest whipped feta? Start with a good-quality block of feta cheese packed in brine. While pre-crumbled feta might be convenient, it’s often coated in anti-caking agents that dry it out and prevent it from blending smoothly. I love the Dodoni brand, but any feta made with sheep’s milk (or a mix of sheep’s milk and goat milk) will have the best flavor.

How to Make Whipped Feta Dip

Here’s how to make this whipped feta dip with step-by-step images. Check out the recipe card below for the complete ingredient list and printable instructions.

Top Recipe Tips

Here are a few of my most important tips:

  • Drain and pat the feta cheese dry with a paper towel before blending. Removing excess brine and moisture helps the feta whip up into a thicker, creamier dip and prevents your whipped feta from becoming watery.
  • Use room temperature feta and Greek yogurt. This makes them easier to blend together, resulting in a smoother, creamier dip with less effort. Cold ingredients can cause the mixture to seize or turn lumpy.
  • Wait to add additional salt. Feta cheese is already quite salty, so taste the dip first—then add salt only if needed.
  • If the dip is too thick, add 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil or lemon juice, or 1-2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt, until the final result is light, fluffy, and spreadable. Add liquids slowly so you don’t accidentally thin it out too much.

Creative Topping Ideas

This creamy whipped feta is a blank canvas waiting for tasty toppings. For this recipe, I topped mine with olive oil, homemade za’atar seasoning blend, pomegranate pearls, and fresh mint to create the perfect Middle Eastern-inspired dip. Here are a few other fun ideas:

  • Sweet & Tangy: Drizzle with honey and top with pomegranate arils and chopped toasted pecans. A beautiful combo perfect for the holidays.
  • Mediterranean-Inspired: Drizzle with olive oil, chopped marinated olives, roasted cherry tomatoes, and sprinkle with crushed oregano or lemon zest. Delicious with flatbread, crudités, or as a mezze platter.
  • Bold & Spicy: Drizzle with hot chili oil or hot honey, then sprinkle with Aleppo pepper or crushed red pepper flakes and thinly sliced green onions.
  • Earthy & Sweet: Roasted grapes, crumbled walnuts, and a light drizzle of balsamic glaze. The perfect pairing.

Serving Tip

Half the fun of making this dip is how you present it – especially if you plan to add some toppings! Spoon the whipped feta into a round, shallow bowl (while it’s still at room temperature), then use the back of the spoon to spread it into a wide, even circle, creating soft ridges and valleys in the surface of the dip to collect all the various toppings.

Everyday Serving Ideas

Transforming crumbly feta cheese into a smooth, spreadable dip is pretty life-changing. Aside from including it as part of a mezze platter or charcuterie board with fresh vegetables and warm pita bread, what are some other ways you can enjoy this dip?

Well, for starters, it’s absolutely incredible with crispy air fryer French fries, garlic roasted potatoes, or stirred into soup. Add a spoonful to your next pasta dinner, smear it onto pizza, naan, or flatbread, or layer it into your favorite homemade lasagna. Heck, you could even stir it into scrambled eggs (this is actually really good!) Honestly, once you start experimenting with different flavors, you may be surprised at how versatile this dip actually is!

  • ¼ cup plain full-fat Greek yogurt, at room temp
  • 1 clove garlic, minced, optional
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, optional
  • 2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus extra for drizzling, at room temp
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • Pomegranate pearls, for topping, optional
  • Za’atar seasoning, for topping, optional
  • Mint, to garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Break the feta cheese into large chunks and place them into the bowl of a food processor or high-speed blender.
  • Pulse the feta in short bursts until it resembles fine crumbs, scraping down the sides as needed.
  • Add the Greek yogurt, minced garlic, and lemon juice to the food processor. With the processor running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil. Then blend for 1–2 minutes until smooth and creamy, pausing to scrape the sides as needed.
  • Taste and add salt and pepper, as needed. Transfer the dip to a shallow bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and top with pomegranate pearls, za’atar, and fresh mint, if desired.

Notes

This whipped feta dip recipe yields approximately 1 to 1¼ cups of dip, and makes about 4 to 6 appetizer-sized servings, depending on what it’s served with.
  • For best results, use room temperature ingredients. This helps the dip blend more easily for a smoother consistency.
  • If the dip is too thick, adjust the consistency with a small amount of olive oil, lemon juice, or Greek yogurt until it’s light and spreadable.
  • Be sure to check out the full post for topping ideas and fun ways to use this whipped feta in everyday recipes!
How to store whipped feta dip: Transfer leftover whipped feta to an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. After chilling in the refrigerator, the dip will firm up slightly. To return it to its original whipped consistency, allow it to sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes, then re-blend (or stir well for smaller portions). If you’d like to make this dip ahead, wait to add any toppings until just before serving. Freezing is not recommended.

    Hi –
Quick question – how would you adapt this to use a personal blender (like a bullet) with no “drizzle port”?

    Thanks!

    1. Jessica Randhawa says:

Great question! If youโ€™re using a personal blender without a drizzle port, you can still make this whipped feta dip with a simple adjustment. Instead of drizzling the olive oil in while blending, just add the olive oil along with the Greek yogurt, garlic, and lemon juice right from the start. Then blend everything together until smooth and creamy, pausing to scrape down the sides as needed. The texture will still be deliciously creamy, and youโ€™ll hardly notice a difference!
