A sign on the side of a building

While wandering the streets of Italy,
I discovered a new obsesssion-
windows and doors.

I don’t know what it is about them,
but they have quickly become one of my favorite things to photograph.
Perhaps it’s their bright colors,
and unique detail,
drawing me in,
and forcing me (with little struggle) to fall in love.
Whatever the reason,
I can’t complain.
Sometimes, in this life, it is the little things.

This new found appreciation has inspired a new series on this little blog of mine-
windows and doors

Whenever I travel somewhere new,
I will share these gateways, openings, and in some cases, works of art, with all of you.
I decided to start with my own village here in Germany-
Benediktbeuern.
And, perfect timing.
Summer in Bavaria means flowers,
and lots and lots of color!

I adore this post! I don't think American's appreciate the sheer beauty and elegance that a pretty window can add to their exterior. I love the 4th picture, there's just something about the teal shutters paired with the bright reds and pinks of the gardenias that make that window terribly romantic and beautiful. Thank you for the post.

Judging from the type of windows they have, these only prove that there are certain types of windows in different countries. Like those in the pictures, these are called casement windows, which are commonly used in Italy. On the other hand, in US, single hung windows are commonly used.
