Buffalo chicken anything is my favorite and these warm and cheesy buffalo chicken sliders are comfort food at its best! They’re the perfect party appetizer for game day and other social gatherings or can be turned into a satisfying main meal alongside your favorite sides.

Why You’ll Love Buffalo Chicken Sliders

  • They’re super easy to make and can even be made ahead of time by preparing the shredded chicken mixture 1-2 days before assembling and baking.
  • Easily adjust the spice level by selecting your favorite brand of buffalo sauce or by making your own homemade buffalo sauce
  • These buffalo chicken sliders are so full of flavor and are loved by all! They’re great as snacks, party appetizers, a light meal, or a main dish with fries, salad, or veggies.

What are Sliders?

A ‘slider’ is an American term referring to a small sandwich. They are often likened to a miniature burger. The term was originally coined by U.S. Navy sailors who noted their greasiness and the ease at which they would slide down in just one or two bites!

Since then, sliders have been enjoyed in many American households as tasty party appetizers or light meals.

Key Ingredients and Substitutions

Find the printable recipe with measurements in the recipe card below.

  • Cream cheese – Softened at room temperature for easy mixing. Full-fat cream cheese is recommended, although low-fat cream cheese will also work.
  • Ranch dressing – Use homemade ranch dressing or your favorite store-bought. You could experiment with this chipotle ranch dressing or sriracha ranch dressing
  • Buffalo hot sauce – Use your favorite brand or make your own buffalo sauce recipe and adjust the level of heat according to your personal preference.
  • Garlic – Finely minced from 2 whole cloves for best flavor.
  • Chicken – Cooked and shredded chicken. Chicken breast can be cooked specifically for these sliders or you can use leftovers from cooking a whole chicken for the family earlier in the week. Rotisserie chicken is a great option for added convenience. These sliders could also be made with leftover turkey from the holidays.
  • Diced celery – Dice into small pieces so that it adds a crunchy texture without being overly chunky.
  • Blue cheese – Crumbled. Feta cheese is a great alternative.
  • Mozzarella cheese – Freshly shredded. Feel free to use another type of shredded cheese, like Monterey Jack or Pepper Jack.
  • Butter – Melted for brushing the tops of the slider buns.
  • Parsley – Freshly minced for added freshness in the melted butter. Chopped thyme is also great.
  • Hawaiian rolls – Sliced in half lengthwise. This recipe requires a pack of 12 rolls.

How to Make Buffalo Chicken Sliders

1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a large baking pan with parchment paper. Set the pan aside.

2. Make the filling: Whisk the cream cheese and ranch in a large bowl until smooth. Stir in the hot sauce, garlic, and salt. Fold in the chicken, celery, and blue cheese.

3. Make the butter mixture: Whisk the melted butter and minced parsley together in a small bowl. Set aside.

4. Assemble the sliders: Lay the bottom half of the rolls on the prepared pan and spread the buffalo chicken mixture evenly on top. Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the chicken and then lay the top half of the rolls on top. Brush the tops of the slider buns with the butter mixture.

5. Bake the sliders: Bake the buffalo chicken sliders for 15-18 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted. Note: If you notice that the tops of the rolls are browning too quickly, place a sheet of aluminum foil over the pan, removing the foil a few minutes before the end of the baking time.

6. Garnish and serve: Garnish with an additional sprinkle of minced parsley and serve with a side of ranch dressing, if desired.

Serving Ideas

Enjoy these buffalo chicken sliders alone or with a side of French fries, veggie sticks, potato salad, corn on the cob, bacon ranch pasta salad, or baked beans. There’s really no end to the possibilities of what you can pair with these tasty sliders!

I always serve them with an extra portion of ranch dressing and Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, but you could also try drizzling them with a little buffalo ranch sauce, chipotle ranch dressing, or sriracha ranch dressing.

Storage and Freezing

Storage and Reheating: These buffalo chicken sliders are best served immediately. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 6 hours. Any longer than that and the rolls will start to become soggy from the filling. Reheat these sliders in an oven at 350 degrees F for 4-5 minutes or until heated through and the cheese is melted.

Make-Ahead: The shredded chicken mixture is great to make ahead and store in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days, ready to be loaded onto the slider buns to bake.

Can I Freeze Buffalo Chicken Sliders? Yes. Once completely cool, wrap each leftover slider with plastic wrap and then again with aluminum foil. Transfer them to an airtight container or a freezer-safe bag to freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw the frozen sliders in the fridge overnight and then reheat as directed above.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup ranch dressing
  • ¼ cup buffalo sauce, homemade or store bought
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • ¼ cup celery, diced
  • 1 cup crumbled blue cheese, or feta cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, freshly shredded
  • 3 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, minced
  • 1 pack (12 rolls) Hawaiian bread rolls, sliced in half lengthwise

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the softened cream cheese and ranch dressing until smooth, then stir in the hot sauce, garlic, and salt. Once combined, gently fold in the chicken, celery, and blue cheese.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter and fresh parsley.
  • To assemble the sliders, place the bottom half of the rolls on the prepared pan, keeping them intact. Spread the buffalo chicken mix evenly on top and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top. Place the top half of the rolls on top then brush on the butter evenly.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the tops are golden and the cheese fully melts. Garnish with minced parsley and serve with ranch dressing or additional buffalo sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Best served immediately. Sitting out for too long or storing them in the refrigerator will result in soggy buns. Reheat them in a 350-degree oven for 4-5 minutes or until heated through and the cheese is melted.
