A couple months back,
I made a weekend visit to Heidelberg, Germany.
(yes, this is how behind I am in posting)
I arrived by train,
and met up with Alyx–
another expat living in Germany
(actually was living in Germany. She just moved back!)
Sadly, I have no pictures of the two of us,
and no proof of our meeting.
but, we did.
If you haven’t met her yet,
I highly recommend that you head over to her blog now,
and say hi.
She’s awesome.
We walked around Heidelberg,
and headed up to the castle overlooking the Neckar River Valley.
The views of Heidelberg city from the castle were stunning,
and worth the hike up the short, yet, steep hill necessary to get there.
The gardens, however,
left something to be desired.
Heidelberg is also well known for its university,
the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität,
thus making this little city more than just a popular tourist destination.
I spent the day walking in the woods on the opposite side of the river,
and window shopping along the Hauptstrasse (main street).
This main street is unique in its length-
it is long,
so long that it is believed to be the longest shopping street in Germany.
Overall, Heidelberg is a lovely city,
and I can see why so many tourists flock here every year.
It is small, however,
and one day was plenty of time too see it all without feeling rushed.
I stayed at Lotte Hostel.
This hostel was amazing, and highly recommended if you’re ever in Heidelberg.
The rooms and bathrooms were clean and bright,
the location perfect,
and they offer free museli and coffee all day long.
The best part was the hostel owner-
nicest lady ever.

Glad you had a great time in Heidelberg! And sunny weather. Aside from having the longest shopping street (2 kilometers and a bit more), it is also believed to have the best weather in Germany! *grin*
