Chocolate and wine- two of my favorite things.
You too? Well hello new friend (if you’re not into chocolate or wine, that’s ok. I still want to be your friend).
Randomly yesterday I had a craving for hot chocolate.
It was past 5pm, so automatically I wanted some wine, too.
I also had this skull mug that I wanted to show off and for whatever reason this skull mug just SCREAMS cayenne pepper (hmm, just me?)
Well, I decided to make my own Halloween concoction- and give it a try before serving it on the big night (you know, just in case it was disgusting).
I loved it!
Rich, chocolatey and definitely bursting with the flavors of yummy red wine (if you’re expecting a sweet hot chocolate, get that out of your head right now, or leave the wine out- this is not your classic hot coco). The cayenne gives it the slightest kick and the cinnamon just ties the whole deal together.
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chunks
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 cup good red wine
- Whipped Cream
- Chocolate shavings
- In a saucepan over medium heat add milk and dark chocolate chunks. Whisk continuously until chocolate is completely melted and incorporated into the milk. Whisk in the cayenne pepper and ground cinnamon. Pour in the red wine and heat until everything is hot. Taste and add additional spices as needed. Top with marshmallows or whipped cream.
