Easy Dill Dip Recipe
Is it even a party if dill dip isn’t there? Honestly, I doubt it.
Fortunately, this quick and easy dill dip takes just minutes to whip together and needs only 5 ingredients to make. It’s the perfect spring/summer party appetizer and pairs perfectly with fresh veggies (carrots are my fav!), buttery crackers, soft sourdough bread, and salty chips.
It’s cool and creamy, making it the best summer potluck contribution and an instant crowd favorite!
Recipe Notes and Tips
- Dill dip tastes best after it’s had a chance to chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or so. This allows the flavors to meld together.
- Leftover dill dip can easily be turned into a salad dressing for leafy greens or pasta salad. Add in some dill pickle juice or freshly squeezed lemon juice to make the consistency of the dip thinner without losing flavor.
- Add some texture to your dip by stirring in some diced dill pickles.
- Dill dip may thicken upon storing. Give it a good stir before serving again. You can also add a splash of dill pickle juice if needed.
- Easily double or triple this dip recipe if you need more for serving.
Key Ingredients and Substitutions
Find the printable recipe with measurements in the recipe card below.
- Sour cream: Sour cream adds creaminess and tanginess. For the tastiest dip, use full-fat sour cream. Greek yogurt can be used instead, but it will alter the flavor of the dip slightly.
- Mayonnaise: Mayo adds richness and creaminess. Use your favorite store-bought brand or homemade mayonnaise. Miracle Whip isn’t a suitable substitution.
- Freshly minced dill: This adds a wonderful freshness to the dip. Dried dill can be used instead (you’ll need approximately 1-2 tablespoons).
- Dried minced onion: Onion powder can be used instead. Since onion powder is much more potent than dried minced onion, start with a small amount – about ½ teaspoon – and add more as needed.
- Salt: Add more to taste, but only once the dip has been made.
- Garlic powder: Garlic salt can be used instead. If garlic salt is added, only add additional salt to taste.
How to Make Dill Dip
1. Combine all chill: Stir all of the ingredients together in a medium bowl. and refrigerate the dip for 30 minutes so that the flavors meld together.
2. Stir and garnish: Stir the dip again when ready to serve and garnish with fresh dill to enjoy alongside your favorite veggies, crackers, and chips.
What to Eat With Dill Dip
Dill dip is the perfect party appetizer or snack to dunk fresh vegetables into, such as carrot sticks, cucumber, celery sticks, and broccoli. It’s also great with potato chips, toasted pita wedges, baked zucchini fries, chicken tenders, tater tots, or meatballs.
Spread over sandwich bread, bread rolls, croissants, or onto wraps, as a yummy condiment for added flavor. Alternatively, drizzle thinned-out dip over leafy greens or use it to coat cold pasta salads, such as my dill pickle pasta salad.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Freezing is not recommended as the creamy ingredients are likely to split, altering the consistency of the dip.
