Easy Homemade Honey Mustard Sauce
Don’t let its simplicity fool you- this honey mustard recipe is a must-have condiment and dipping sauce for anyone that loves at least one of the following,
- Chicken tenders
- Chicken nuggets
- Chicken strips
- Chicken fingers
- Popcorn chicken
- Fries

And since 5 of those up there are basically the same thing, there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to love dipping at least 5 into this creamy, sweet, and delicious honey mustard goodness.
Versatile, and easily customizable, the best part about making your own honey mustard sauce is that you probably have all the ingredients somewhere in your pantry.
So what do you need to make homemade honey mustard sauce?
Ingredients
- Mayonnaise
- Dijon mustard
- Yellow mustard
- Honey
- White vinegar
- Salt + Pepper
- Paprika (optional)
Is honey mustard sauce gluten-free? In many, or most, cases, this easy recipe is gluten-free and safe to eat if you have a sensitivity to gluten. However, always read labels before buying (in this mayonnaise and mustard) to make sure that no wheat was somehow added in there.
Can I use any mustard? With this recipe, I added mostly dijon mustard and a little bit of yellow mustard. Depending on what I have in the refrigerator, already opened, at the time largely determines what I use. That said, I do not recommend using all yellow mustard. If you plan to use just one type of mustard, stick with brown mustard, like dijon.
How to Make Honey Mustard Sauce
I love making simple sauces like this because they’re so easy to make! Simply gather your ingredients and combine in a small bowl until smooth and creamy.
For best results, you may want to combine the mustard with the vinegar, first, then add and combine the honey. Last, add the mayonnaise and season with salt and pepper, to taste.
How to store leftover sauce:
I do not recommend freezing leftover honey mustard sauce. However, stored in an airtight container and in the refrigerator, it will last for approximately 2 weeks (or longer!) Just be sure to date your jar or container so that you know when it was made.
Honey Mustard Uses
I love honey mustard so I use this recipe as way more than just a dipping sauce.
Sometimes I’ll use it as a marinade and cook the chicken directly in the sauce. Like I did in this Instant Pot honey mustard chicken thigh recipe or this easy baked honey mustard chicken recipe.
It also makes a really fantastic salad dressing. You may choose to keep the mayonnaise or swap it out for plain yogurt instead. It’s great for drizzling over roasted veggies, especially crispy roasted Brussels Sprouts and tender roasted asparagus.
